THE APPEAL - WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP!
During the winter of 2005-6 it was noticed that there was an above average number of slates that had slipped from the roof.

Subsequent work to repair these slatesrevealed the onset of nail rot. Nail rot is caused by the rain and salty sea air corroding the copper nails holding the slates to the battens below. This results in the roof slates slipping to leave gaps, allowing the ingress of rain and also allowing the wind to get under the surrounding slates. Eventually these slates too will be lost to the wind. Obviously the fear is that the interior fabric of the church will also become damaged if this occurs. Given the church's exposed position and the ferocity of the Cornish weather in winter, it is of upmost importance to carry out this vital repair work before the situation becomes any worse.
We are constantly trying to repair this damage, but the situation we are faced with is the possibility of severe water damage during any storm. The solution to this problem is to take of the existing Cornish Delabole slates with great care and to felt, batten and re-nail the entire roof, an enormous cost to our very small parish.
This church has stood since the 13th century, and as well as being actively used as a place of worship by the local congregation, it serves as a welcome place of solitude and reflecton to many visitors to the area each year.
We simply must raise the money to carry out this major refurbishment. without this money being raised the church roof will continue to degrade. The longer it is left the faster it will deacy. This will lead to the church becoming unuseable, and it's closure. DON'T LET IT HAPPEN!
